Having had top 5 success with all of the singles releases from their debut, Xenomania were asked to write and produce the entire second Girls Aloud album, "What Will The Neighbours Say?" named after a line in the second single from the album, "Love Machine." The album was preceded by three singles, including their second #1, a cover of "I'll Stand By You" for BBC Children In Need, and the album went on to sell over 550,000 copies, selling over 85,000 in its first week of release, and debuting at #6 in the official UK top 40 singles chart. The album also sees the girls themselves take writing credits on tracks, with songs such as "Hear Me Out" being co-written by the group.

After a short break, Girls Aloud returned with the first single from their second album, "What Will The Neighbours Say?"; an electro-pop stormer, "The Show," featuring a now-typical "non-linear" Xenomania song-structure, featuring two different choruses. The single debuted at #2 in the official UK chart, once again adding to their run of top 10 singles, and was also released on limited edition 3" CD, featuring free ringtone, as part of the UK trial.

"Love Machine" is quintessentially Girls Aloud; one of their most memorable singles to date, mixing old-school 60's funk against a beat almost built for a deep south barndance! The track once again debuted at #2, becoming their sixth consecutive top 3 hit, and selling enough copies in its first week to be #1 at nearly any other week in the year. The single also featured the fan-favourite B-side, "Androgynous Girls," which is hailed as a hidden gem!

The third single to be released from "What Will The Neighbours Say?" was always due to be a cover version for the BBC Children In Need campaign, initially rumoured to be a cover of "The Power Of Love" (recorded by Frankie Goes To Hollywood), but instead was "I'll Stand By You," written by Chrissie Hynde and recorded by her band, The Pretenders. The original version of the track peaked at #10 in the UK top 40 singles chart, but the Girls Aloud version eclipsed it by debuting at #1, selling nearly 60,000 copies in the first week, and helping the charity.

The fourth and final single release from "What Will The Neighbours Say?" was the rock-tinged electro-pop stormer, "Wake Me Up," critically acclaimed as a stand-out track from the then already platinum album. Backed with two exclusive B-sides, both co-written by the girls themselves, "History" and "Loving Is Easy," and released on limited edition numbered 7" vinyl (their first ever!), the track gave the girls an eighth consecutive top 5 hit!
